Young Women In Jazz

Recognised as the leading course for young women who are interested in pursuing a jazz career, join students and tutors of the 2017 ACT Young Women's Jazz Workshops for their grand finale graduating concert.

Enjoy an evening of energetic jazz as Canberra’s emerging generation of young soloists display their bold new jazz skills. They are led in concert by Course Co-Director pianist Clare Fitzgerald, and the evening will feature a special performance from her band The Telepathetics, comprising drummer Steve Fitzgerald and bassist Alec Coulson.

With ages ranging 14 – 18 years old, participants have honed their jazz skills in brass, percussion, strings, vocals and more over the course led by Clare and Co-Director guitarist Jessica Green, with the added tutelage of ANU’s Distinguished Artist in Residence, Miroslav Bukovsky.

Clare Fitzgerald’s The Telepathetics were born out of a shared love of Ben Folds, Herbie Hancock and Frank Zappa. They have performed numerous times at the Merimbula Jazz Festival, and play regularly at the usual Canberra spots.
