Newsies Jnr has never been staged in Canberra, however its subject matter will resonate with the ACT region’s politically savvy audiences. But don’t let those serious notions put you off. Newsies Jnr is jampacked with unforgettable characters, wonderful songs, sharp choreography and staging, delivered by a cast of incredibly dedicated young performers. 
 
Newsies started life as a Disney feature film in 1992, directed by Kenny Ortega, loosely based on the New York City newsboys' strike of 1899. It featured twelve original songs by Alan Menken with lyrics by Jack Feldman. It became a cult classic and was adapted into a Broadway stage musical with book by Harvey Fierstein. Nominated for eight Tony Awards, it won two, including Best Original Score for Menken and Feldman.
 
Our version is Newsies Jnr, a shorter, but no less powerful, rendition of this exciting work. With a very experienced team of locally based professional creatives guiding the work, this promises to be a very enjoyable, family-friendly theatre experience. 
Newsies Jnr will be the first full production from PATH (Performing After Training Hard!!) - a specialist music theatre program developed by Music Theatre Projects.
