Jerez Flamenco
Elena Lorenzo Varga presents Jerez Flamenco direct from Spain, launching the 1st Flamenco Festival touring Australia in July 2022.
Jerez Flamenco will showcase four incredibly talented artists from Jerez de la Frontera, Andalucía, all renowned exponents of traditional pure Flamenco from its birthplace. They are some of the most respected and recognised artists of today.
This 90-minute performance of pure masculine energy evokes the spirit of long warm afternoons by the Alcázar, Feria del Caballo (Andalusian horses), church bells tolling in the gypsy suburbs of Santiago, San Miguel and The Plazuela, the finest Jerez sherry and families gathering in the neighbourhood for a street fiesta.
Song and dance is a natural rhythm to a Flamenco way of life.
A show true to its roots yet contemporary in its form, Jerez Flamenco will provoke the captivating clack of castanets; the intense emotions of the cantos and the spontaneity and audience participation of the jaleo – the handclapping, foot stamping and often discordant shouting that adds to that unique Flamenco atmosphere.
The two singers are both from highly respected and famous families with a long history in Flamenco. The passionate, earthy voices of El Londro and Manuel Malena dance over virtuosic guitar melodies and pulsing crescendos of Paco Lara’s guitar, while intricate dynamic rhythms are the driving force for staccato heels, whipping turns, elegance and the powerful dance of Andres Peña.
Wild and joyous, tempered and dark like its four strong artists, Jerez Flamenco has spontaneous improvisation in abundance whilst delving into the very nature of the art form of Flamenco.
