Fresh Funk "18"
As Canberra’s first urban dance and choreographic development program, Fresh Funk has paved the way for young dancers to learn, create and explore through hip-hop and contemporary dance styles for nearly two decades.
This year the program celebrates 18 years of successful community cultural development with a special showcase performance at The Street.
“18” will showcase new works by Fresh Funk dancers now working professionally across Australia, such as Rob McLean, Dave McLean and Sinan Amin from The Dream Dance Company, Jack May, director of Momentum Dance Studios in Melbourne, and more.
Performed by the program’s advanced dancers, this show highlights the connection between dance development and personal resilience, and how from little things big things grow.
Over its’ 18 years the program has given young people across the ACT the opportunity to explore self-expression through dance, build social cohesion, and develop their artistic practice. It has brought urban dance into popular culture and offered a valuable dance experience. Fresh Funk teaches dance and discipline, encourages social inclusion, and celebrates team spirit and community connectedness.
Many of Fresh Funk’s dancers have gone on to establish professional dance careers worldwide and many many more have evolved into confident, creative individuals as a result of their participation in the program.
