The Idea Of North
Yule. Love it
Christmas time is almost here...and oh, how we love that festive time with its pretty tunes and unbridled licence to shop. If, like us, you're a little over all that stuff cluttering up your home, The Idea of North is providing you with the opportunity to give the gift of live music to your loved ones this year.
Join us for an end-of-year event that promises to make you feel all the feels. Fizzy. Squishy. Misty. Classy. Laughy. Singy. Festivy.
The Idea of North (TION) has been Australia's premier contemporary a cappella ensemble for many years. Formed originally in 1993, four friends from the Canberra School of Music Jazz Department (ANU) got together and started creating their now highly sought after and imaginative arrangements of classic songs from the pop, jazz, folk, gospel and comedy genres.
Since committing to full-time involvement in the early 2000’s, TION’s successes have included frequent commitments in the USA, Europe and Asia, winning awards along the way and building an enviably extensive fan base which crosses all demographic barriers. TION’s exceptional ability to connect musically and emotionally with an audience must be experienced to be believed.
On this occasion, The Idea of North is introducing to its Canberra audiences two new members - Emma Rule and Luke Thompson. Interestingly, both are school teachers but have very recently become the top and bottom end of TION - taking up the critical soprano and bass roles. Emma graduated from the Victorian School of Arts Music Theatre Program in 2006; Luke graduated from the Elder School of Music in Adelaide in 2003. They both bring long, successful and varied musical careers to this world renowned a cappella group.
