Pheno 'Dragon Year' EP Launch  + Alyx Dennison + Bonnie Stewart + interactive sound installation by Annie Mckinnon

Pheno (fee-no) is electric guitarist and vocalist Jess Green. As Pheno, she is pioneering her own style of Art-Pop. Canberra audiences have witnessed Pheno both with band and solo at Smith’s Alternative, the ANU bar finale, supporting Moaning Lisa or at the Candelo Arts Festival. This very special concert is the Canberra launch for the debut EP from Pheno ‘Dragon Year’. Jess grew up in Canberra, studying guitar at the ANU Jazz department, and has returned to live in the ACT after 12 years living and working in Sydney. Jess is also currently working on the score to The Street’s upcoming production of ‘Boys Will Be Boys’.

The EP ‘Dragon Year’  was launched in May as part of VIVID Sydney. Since then Jess has been touring nationally, and returns again to Canberra fresh from performing at Brisbane’s Powerhouse. The music layers shimmering vocals, scorching electric guitars, synthesisers, and stomping backbeats. Influenced by artists such as Tune-Yards and St Vincent with a huge nod to 80’s heroes David Bowie and Talking Heads.

As a special treat for The Street Theatre audience, this concert will also showcase works by Jess’ band mates Alyx Dennison & Bonnie Stewart, both renowned songwriters in their own right, and the night will begin with audiences being invited to view and interact with designer and musician Annie Mckinnon’s work ‘Habitatual’
