A Better Tomorrow by David Atfield
New Work Play Reading
A World War 2 love story with a 'queer' bent.
In A Better Tomorrow, leading ACT-based LGBTQIA+ playwright David Atfield with a bold young cast explores forbidden history in a romantic thought-provoking tale of same-sex love blossoming during the horrors of WW2. Two Australian airmen are tasked with bombing Germany, while, on the ground, two German women try to survive a collapsing nation. In the stress of war the two couples find love, grappling with moral struggles personal and social. When British Bomber Command orders a raid on Würzburg, in the dying days of the war the four characters are brought together in a catastrophic way that will change all their lives.
A Better Tomorrow was shortlisted for the Rodney Seaborn Award in 2022.
