CIIF Knitting
Climb, swing, dive, knot
By Sara Šoukal (Slovenia)
What is connection? It’s the simple questions that let us dive deeper. How can we tell if we relate to each other or anything? In Knitting, connection becomes visible by a climbing rope on stage; a seventy-metre metaphor and an actual prop, indicating closeness, loops and distance.
Sara Šoukal developed this format by inviting guests to join her on the road of discovery. The improvisers swing from inspiration to action, tie spot-on knots and hold on to their discoveries.
A show exploring physicality, offering bold images, fast switches and a desire to explore our depths, this format was a must-get opening night offering for Festival Director Nick Byrne after he saw Šoukal deliver this remarkable piece of theatre in her home city of Ljubljana.
