Who can say where a Willy Willy is going and how much dirt it might stir-up? These fleeting outback wonders are fun to watch and grip our attention until they are gone.

Smashing through the cultural glass ceiling of the Australian comedy industry, Aboriginal funny man, Dane Simpson has cracked-up comedy gala audiences of the largest festivals from Melbourne to Edinburgh, and been whisked on to every light entertainment TV show in the country with his endearing and relatable anecdotal style.

In this truly inspiring collaboration with Canberra’s Libby Emerson, the improv community, and locally-based artist Bek Walters, Simpson’s stories are responded to spontaneously by theatrical improvisers coming together and connecting with the environment and each other, in a way that brings love and especially laughter. Dane Simpson always was, always will be funny.

Recognising the continuing connection of the Ngunnawal and Ngambri people to the land, waters, and culture of this country upon which Willy Willy is performed, and paying respect to their Elders past, present, and future, we the improvisers of Canberra International Improv Festival accept the generous invitation of the Uluru Statement from the Heart to walk with us in a movement of the Australian people for a better future.
