Meet The Author - Mikey Robins

Albert Einstein once said, ‘Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity, and I’m not sure about the universe’. 

Comedian and armchair historian Mikey Robins will be in conversation with Alex Sloan on Mikey's new book, Idiots, Follies and Misadventures, which reveals that human stupidity has always been our constant companion. History books are full of heroes and villains… but what about all the idiots? Mikey Robins tells the astonishing story of human stupidity, one idiot at a time. Mikey says, “My book is about the great stuff ups of history”.

History tends to omit tales of human fallibility. We overlook the dubious and ridiculous contributions made by history’s tawdry parade of knuckleheads. Idiots, Follies and Misadventures, is a rollicking romp through history told through ridiculous cautionary tales, to hopefully amuse and add some perspective to our current rash of stupidity.

Mikey Robins is one of Australia’s best-known comedians and broadcasters. He spent seven years as the host of Triple J’s National Breakfast Show before appearing as team leader on the smash hit TV series Good News Week. He has written for The Daily Telegraph, GQ and Men’s Style and the author of Seven deadly sins and one very naughty fruit (2019). Mikey is the co -host of Heroes and Howlers and the rest is history, a podcast which takes a critical look at some of history's quirkiest moments 

Alex Sloan AM has been a journalist for over 30 years, including as a long-time broadcaster with the ABC. In 2017 Alex was named Canberra Citizen of the Year. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2019 for her significant service to the community, and to the broadcast media as a radio presenter. Alex is deputy chair of The Australia Institute, a director of The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and deputy chair of The ACT Writers Centre.
