Director, dramaturg and photographer Shelly Higgs hosts a conversation with This Rough Magic playwright Helen Machalias where they will delve into the development and production of a new Australian play This Rough Magic. Explore the layered text of This Rough Magic, where interpolations of Iranian mythology and folklore are mixed with asylum seeker accounts and ‘stop the boats’ rhetoric to create a unique reimaging of Shakespeare’s classic.

Helen Machalias
Helen Machalias is an award-winning playwright of ideas, who has previously worked with The Street on a stage adaption of Robyn Klein's People Might Here You and In Loco Parentis, which examined the cover-up of sexual harassment and assault on university campuses.
Shelly Higgs
Shelly Higgs is a professional theatre director, dramaturg, producer, playwright, award-winning photographer and emerging film maker. At The Street Shelly has directed Art and Fragment and was involved in the development of numerous works, including This Rough Magic.
