Awarded the Canberra Critics Circle Award 2021 for leading his Trio in a performance (2020) at The Street featuring the music of Thelonius Monk with a nod to Chick Corea combined with original compositions.
   
The Wayne Kelly Trio, led by one of Australia’s finest jazz pianists, add to the sizzle of summer with a live performance celebrating 25 years of playing  that will be exhilarating, achingly beautiful and always swinging. Prominent and accomplished  musicians, drummer Mark Sutton and double bassist Ben O’Loughlin, take to the stage with composer/pianist Wayne Kelly for an exchange of thoughts, feelings and ideas in a musical journey jam-packed with top notch jazz. 

Bassist Ben O’Loughlin cut his teeth in the New York Jazz Scene and brings his solid yet melodic musical sensibility to jazz, classical and Eastern European traditional music whilst drummer Mark Sutton is legendary for his deep groove, supportive yet exciting ensemble playing.
 
The Trio of lifelong navigators of jazz renowned for putting their heart and soul into performances will explore and take a deep dive into Kelly’s back catalogue whist also featuring original O’Loughlin & Sutton compositions. You can expect a smorgasbord of delicious compositions embracing the harmonies of the blues, African Bembe rhythms, ferociously fiendish fast swing rhythms with hints of Modal jazz, touching the realm of freedom and love and the recent influences of travel to the USA, Europe & Asia.  
  
Come along and celebrate 25 years with Wayne, Ben and Mark who are connected by a passion for the love of music and jazz, drawing inspiration from the music of Jazz Piano legends Ahmad Jamal, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Kenny Kirkland, Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau to name a few.
