Caribe Havana Return

Cuban Jazz, Dance, Chanting, Story Telling and Participation.

Caribe’s Havana Return crafts Cuban traditional and classic forms in a contemporary Framework resulting in music that is unique and fresh. Seeing Caribe live is a communal experience incorporating chants and percussive elements deeply rooted in rumba and Afro-Cuban religions.

The constant push and pull between powerful percussion and stunning melodies creates a dynamic tension that draws you in and invites you to dance. This bountiful collaboration with Cuban dancer Adrian Medina is engaging and
entertaining for wallflowers and hipshakers alike.

The percussion and rhythm section set up a crackling, thunderous bed for Medina to dance with and the group to solo over. Their enthusiasm and raw spontaneity is impossible to resist.

Dancer: Adrian Medina

Musicians: Juan Carlos Allende and Steve Marin - percussion,
Lee McIver - trpt, Gai Bryant - alto & soprano saxes, Julian Gough - tenor sax, Des Cannings - bone, Nick Henderson - bass and Ed Goyer - piano

“Rhythm is the spine and it is this heartbeat pulsing through everything”–Adrian Medina
“Gai Bryant is one of the brightest lights in the local jazz scene.”– Financial Review
“Lee McIver can successfully cross genres and yet also manage to remain refreshingly original”– Barry O'Sullivan Jazz and Beyond
