You are here
CIIF Improvision Song Contest
like Eurovision with no pre-written songs
hosted by Nick Byrne (Canberra)
Improvisers from five continents compete for your vote for the best improvised song of 2023, in this truly on-the-edge international contest.
Accompanied by an equally diverse collection of musicians who form an instant band to accompany the songs, each singer will represent their own country and sing songs from titles they have never heard, then await your decision.
In this spectacular performance, (a tradition of the Festival), Australia has won only once, with Rik Brown’s unforgettable pub rock classic Yeah Na. Taiwan’s past winning entry Sticky Tofu is amongst the most memorable, but past champs Slovenia are back in the contest this year, and the competition will certainly be stiff.
The risks are high, the back-up dancers are sweaty, but you’ll never believe the high-quality of the results….. unless you’re there!
Book early for what is always one of the most popular events at the Festival.
